 Abstract:  Morris Morgenstern was an attorney who was active in veterans' organizations in Cleveland, Ohio. He served in the United States Army during World War I. As a veteran he helped organize and was president of the Cuyahoga Council of the Jewish War Veterans, and was also active in its national affiliates. He was president of the Joint Veterans Commission and involved in the Disabled American Veterans. He often represented veterans in his legal practice. The collection consists of certificates, newspaper clippings, programs and a scrapbook. The scrapbook provides an account of Morgenstern's veterans and legal activities.

 Abstract:  Post 14 of the Jewish War Veterans of the United States was organized in 1919 in Cleveland, Ohio, and admitted to the national organization in 1925. The Jewish War Veterans is the oldest active veterans society in the United States It was formed in 1896 as the Hebrew Union Veterans and merged with the Jewish Veterans of the War with Spain in 1920 to form the present organization. Post 14 activities have included social and charitable activities, lobbying for civil rights, and combating anti-Semitism. The collection consists of correspondence, membership lists, scattered minutes of national and regional meetings, constitutions, financial records, news releases, resolutions, speeches, certificates, forms, songs, clippings, scrapbooks, newsletters, proceedings, programs, and announcements.

 Abstract:  The Grand Army of the Republic, Brough Post No. 359, was founded in Collinwood, Ohio, as a local chapter of a national association for veterans of the Civil War. Collinwood was annexed to Cleveland in 1910. The collection consists of personal war sketches of members of Brough Post No. 359, including Joseph B. Baldwin, R.L. Chittenden, Henry M. Frissell, J.F. Herrick, George C. Mapes, and Alonzo Waters.

 Abstract:  The Grand Army of the Republic, Army and Navy Post No. 187 was the Cleveland, Ohio, chapter of this national association of Union Civil War veterans. The GAR worked on both the state and national levels for issues such as pensions and the establishment of soldiers' homes. By 1908 there were a total of 8 GAR posts in Cleveland, with a membership of 886. Five additional posts were located elsewhere in Cuyahoga County, with 129 additional members. The collection consists of a list of members who served in the Civil War with information concerning their births, deaths, and military service, minutes of meetings of Post 187 (1913-1920), and a memorial volume to Louis Black, Company A, 150th Ohio Infantry.
